Full- or part-time | temporary (24 month) | Institute of Human Genetics

 

The Institute of Human Genetics is at the forefront of genomic research and diagnostics, integrating new omics technologies into routine diagnostics. Operating within an ISO15189 accredited framework, we uphold the highest standards of quality and accuracy while pioneering and integrating cutting edge omics technologies. Moreover, our group actively participates in leading consortia such as the 1000 Bavarian Genomes Project and the DZHKomics resource and collaborates closely with the German Human Genome-Phenome Archive (GHGA) to facilitate genetic data accessibility for secondary use under the new German Law on Genomic Medicine (Modellvorhaben nach §64e SGB V).

 

Your responsibilities:

  • Your primary task will be to maintain and enhance the clinical expert system (EVAdb) and NGS analysis platform
  • Ensure the timely and accurate analysis of routine NGS samples for clinical diagnostics for patients counseled at the MVZ
  • Implement, validate, and integrate new features into the pipeline infrastructure
  • Continuously improve and optimize pipeline workflows
  • Assist in transitioning analysis workflows and systems to a cloud-based infrastructure
  • You will have the opportunity to develop an own research focus related to developing and improving cutting edge molecular genetic diagnostics

 

Your Profile:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree (MSc) in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Mathematics, Biology, Medicine experience in developing, deploying, and managing NGS pipelines, e.g. Nextflow or Snakemake
  • Proficiency in running and building DNA, RNA and other omics data analysis pipelines including QC steps
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL / PostgreSQL) and programming languages such as Python and R
  • Fluency in English (e.g. min C1 level)
  • IT administration skills, including Linux administration, security measurements, and familiarity with the administration of Apache and SQL services are beneficial
  • Familiarity with cloud-based systems and dockerization of workflows and applications are an added bonus
  • Preference given to candidates with expertise in NGS diagnostics, integration of the processes in a laboratory management system (LIMS) and familiarity with accredited quality management procedures.
